The Game of Me is an immersive installation of my healing journey from a sexual harassment trauma: a journey towards self-love and compassion. It channels my personal thoughts, emotions and everything that helped me process this trauma and learn to love myself again: The process of this project was my own sort of therapy.

Snapshots of my life are turned into an art installation where people can just look at it or play it. Every single element tells a part of my story in modular gamified experiences. The Game of Me explores the boundaries between different media: from Augmented Reality (AR), Projection Mapping to Creative Coding, Installation Design, Alternative Controlled all mixed with Live Music Performance.

Motivation

This project explored the concept of intrusive thoughts and emotional regulation. Reflecting on my personal traumas to better understand my coping mechanisms was a difficult process, but it ultimately brought a deep sense of peace. I turned to sketching, journaling, coding, composing music, and designing systems as mindful forms of self-expression. The entire experience of creating this installation was profoundly therapeutic.

An interactive installation centered around my healing journey

Design Process

1- Journaling

This project began during counseling sessions, where I was introduced to journaling. In 2010, I experienced sexual harassment in high school from someone I considered a friend. Unable to process the trauma, I subconsciously blocked that chapter of my life. It wasn’t until 2020, when the Assault Police movement began sharing personal stories—that I recognised my own experience and felt empowered to confront it. I realised how isolating it can be to gatekeep painful experiences, thinking no one would relate.

Journaling helped me break that silence. For the first time, I let go of the inner critic and simply wrote whatever came to mind mixing languages, emotions, and thoughts without rules. It became a powerful tool for reflection, alongside music and game design, allowing me to process and express what I had long kept inside.

2- Sharing the project

I didn’t plan to share this project at first as it felt too personal. But by the end, sharing it became part of the healing. Each time I show it, the trauma loses a bit of its power. What moves me most is how others see their own stories in it, and how it opens space for connection and conversation.

3- Prototype (AR Game with Branching Narrative)

The first version of the game was an AR prototype built in Unity, where players could scan different images to unlock and explore branching narratives. It allowed me to test the full story structure and interactive elements.

Projection Mapping

A projection mapping piece exploring time and memory through a personal lens—tracing moments from my childhood up to my move to London in 2020. Built entirely with OpenFrameworks (C++), the projection was adapted each time to fit the unique space it was displayed in.

Interactive AR Personal Diary

An interactive AR experience set inside my personal notebook, where players navigate through different spreads filled with sketches, drawings, and thoughts. Using a projector and button input, flipping each page triggers new diary entries and memorable, personal conversations.

Live Piano Music

I performed live piano improvisations for each participant, using my understanding of the story’s branches and the energy in the room whether confusion, laughter, or suspense to deepen immersion and emotional resonance.
